Battalion 20
Incident Command Unit
Battalion 20 is a 2008 Ford Expedition with four wheel drive.
This vehicle is staffed by the on-duty shift commander, who operates as the Incident Commander on calls.
The incident command unit provides a space for the Incident Commander to supervise, observe, and direct their crews from an office-like environment.
Battalion 20 is also designed to provide a “unified command” when multiple agencies are operating at the scene of an emergency.
The rear interior space has been converted to create a workstation consisting of desk space, special lighting, and storage cabinets.
The driver’s location and rear workstation have separate radios so more than one person can transmit on different frequencies simultaneously.
Additionally, Battalion 20 is equipped with a mobile data computer which provides a link to RED Center Dispatch, pre-incident plans,
and current weather conditions. This unit carries a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) for the Incident Commander to wear if they
are required to enter a hazardous environment.
