The District remains committed to continuous improvement and community engagement. If you have an idea for a program or would like to learn more about available services, please contact the Fire Prevention Bureau at 847-945-4088.

Many kids love visiting the firehouse and seeing the different types of emergency vehicles. If your child is one of these kids, then perhaps you would be interested in having their birthday party at the firehouse! The party consists of a tour, showing the kids where the firefighters live and work, and what they do when they’re not on emergency calls.  The tour also gives the kids an opportunity to view, sit in, and photograph the variety of fire apparatus in the station.

In addition, the firefighters are happy to answer any additional questions party goers may have. If an emergency call does occur during a birthday party the tour may be cut short, but all efforts will be taken to accommodate the party as staffing and resources permit.

If you would like to schedule your child’s birthday party with us at the firehouse please call (847) 945-4088 or email us at dbfd@dbfd.org.

The fire department offers blood pressure checks weekdays between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

We offer free child safety seat inspections in order to assist parents in protecting the lives of the district’s youngest residents. The Deerfield Bannockburn Fire Department has child safety seat technicians available on a limited basis to inspect and install child safety seats.

Residents who would like our technician to inspect or install a safety seat should call our non-emergency business number 847-945-4066 and make an appointment.

The bureau of fire prevention is involved with the local businesses and corporations in disaster planning and evacuation drills for their employees. We review their plans semi-annually and help conduct their practice fire drills.

The National Fire Protection Agency provides a checklist that can be used to determine what your fire safety needs may be.  A safety survey can be found at the following link to the NFPA website here. If after performing the survey questions or concerns still remain, or you would prefer that the FPB comes to your home and assists you with the survey, please contact us at (847) 945-4088 or email us at dbfd@dbfd.org.

This is a state-wide program that local police and fire department members use to help those juveniles who are involved with starting fires. The program involves fire safety education and counseling for children between the ages of 3 through 14 years old. The United States Fire Administration reports that between 25 and 40 per cent of all fires are set by children within this age group.

If you have a juvenile fire-setter problem, we have trained firefighter/intervention specialists who will handle this matter confidentially. Do not delay getting help for this problem! Call (847) 945-4088

We will come out annually to replace your smoke detector battery.

If there were to be a fire in your home tonight, would your family survive? Properly placed and maintained smoke alarms can increase your chances of survival by fifty percent.

Most residential fire deaths occur between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. This is the time of greatest danger, when people are asleep. The primary killer is smoke and poisonous gases which overcome victims as they sleep. When a fire breaks out, there is a limited amount of time that a person has to escape. With the early warning of a smoke alarm, you can be awakened in the early stages of a fire.

Illinois law requires that every residence be equipped with one approved operating smoke alarm within fifteen feet of every room used for sleeping purposes. It is also recommended that at least one smoke alarm be placed on each level of a home.

Placement of smoke alarms is important. Because smoke rises, the alarm should be mounted on the ceiling or high on a wall. If wall mounted, the top of the alarm should be four to twelve inches from the ceiling. A ceiling mounted alarm should be at lease four inches from any wall. Caution should be used to keep the alarm away from drafts created by fans or air ducts.

It is important to maintain your smoke alarms. They should be tested once a month by pressing the test button. Batteries should be replaced according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Smoke alarms for your home should be labeled by a nationally recognized fire-testing laboratory such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL).

Properly installed and maintained smoke detectors, along with a family escape plan, can provide you and your family with the necessary early warning to escape a home fire. The Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District offers to any district resident the following assistance:

  • Check the operation and/or replacement of existing smoke alarms (older than 10 years).
  • Install smoke alarms that you have purchased that have not been installed.
  • Provide and install a new smoke alarm (free of charge) to any senior citizen or physically challenged household.
  • Assist you and your family with a home escape plan.
